Regional Infrastructure Development and Management in Indonesia

Wednesday, February 22, 2017, Department of Urban and Regional Paling, Diponegoro University held a public lecture as a part of Public Lecture Series MPWK UNDIP. The speaker of this public lecture with a theme “Regional Infrastructure Development and Management in Indonesia” is Dr. Ir. Achmad Hermanto Dardak, MSc. He currently works as Head of The Indonesian Engineers Association and previously served as Deputy Minister of Public Work 2010-2014 and Head of Regional Infrastructure Development (BPIW) 2014-2016. A number of achievements and awards he earned such as President Eastern Regional Organization for Planning and Human Settlement (EAROPH), International Road Federation (IRF) Professional of the Year in 2014, Head of the Association of Road Development (HPJI) 2007-present, Award "Distinguished Australia Alumni Award "in 2008, Honorary Fellow Award" from the ASEAN Engineers Association, and the Medal “Satya Lencana Pembangunan” from President of Republic Indonesia.

The event take places at Theater MPWK UNDIP from 09.00 to 12.00 am, with a moderator Dr.sc.agr. Iwan Rudiarto, ST, MSc and opened by Hed of The Department of Urban and Regional Planning, Dr. Ir. Hadi Wahyono, MA. The participants are consist of students of Bachelor Degree of Urban and Regional Planning Program, students of Master of Urban and Regional Development Program, PhD students and even Lecturers from Department of Urban and Regional Planning.

The topic of regional infrastructure development and management, Mr. Dardak focuses that te development as a “network of cities” should focus on each area of growth that has its function, not only serve the region itself but also play a role for the other regions. In addition, infrastructure support is also needed in the development of the area into thematic areas, such as strategic area for tourism, industrial priority area, and so on. He said, the thing that can be improved through physical output will affect the outcome and impact.

Furthermore, he also mentions the importance of building sustainable urban areas as a smart city. There are four important points to build a sustainable smart cities, which are sustainable life, economy and mobility, ecological environment, and governance & community leadership). These points must be mutually connected, controlled, and in real time. In addition, there are some challenges in the infrastructure development such that the implementation of the development is not always the same as planning “implementation is different matters” so we nedd to strengthen the role of goverment an maximize the role of private sector, they shoul be consistent.

After speaker session, followed by question and answer session with participants and at the end of the session closed by the moderator and ended with a group photo. Public Lecture Seriesasaroutine agenda held by Master of Urban and Regional Development Program (MPWK UNDIP), is expected to increase knowledge to students.
