On The Possibilities of Data-Driven Traffic Control and Management Under Road Network Disruption: A

Public Lecture with Dr. Makoto Chikaraishi & Dr. Tetsu Kubota

The Public Lecture was held on Monday, January 20, 2020 at the Theater Room of the Department of
Regional and City Planning, Diponegoro University. In this event there were 2 speakers from
Hiroshima University, Dr. Makoto Chikaraishi and Dr. Tetsu Kubota. The event was held from 09.00-
12.00 which was divided into 4 sessions, which was about 15 minutes of opening and introduction,
then the nextt was presentation 15 minutes of questions and answers with Dr. Makoto Chikaraishi
with the sesion of "On The Possibilities of Data-Driven Traffic Control and Management Under Road
Network Disruption: A Case from Hiroshima, Japan". The next is the presentation of "Introduction to
SATREPS: Implementation of Low-Carbon Affordable Apartments in The Hot -Humid Climate of
Indonesia Towards Paris Agreement 2030 "by Dr. Tetsu Kubota continued with 15 minutes of
questions and answers.

Based on the the presentation of Dr. Makoto Chikaraishi on "On the Possibilities of Data-Driven
Traffic Control and Management Under Road Disruption: A Case from Hiroshima, Japan", various
data are useful in providing certain information. The data captured by CCTV, smartphones, GPS, etc.
can be used to carry out travel analysis and can map the times when the road is overcapacity.
Furthermore, it can analyze people's behavior before, during and after a disaster occurs. Therefore,
this data is usefull an evaluation and basis for the construction of facilities so that in the future it will
facilitate the evacuation process of the community. Utilizing technology such as AI gives benefits as
well. Even though sometimes not 100% of the results can be applied, they can be calibrated to get
optimal results.

"Introduction to SATREPS: Implementation of Low-Carbon Affordable Apartments in The Hot-Humid
Climate of Indonesia Towards Paris Agreement 2030" by Dr. Tetsu Kubota, that in the process of
development at least 5 data that had been standardized are useful, namely weather, people
(comfort, habits), buildings (evaluation of the techniques used), energy use (current needs, and
estimates of future needs) , and implementation (need development guidelines). Indonesia needs
more energy-efficient buildings. Also, Dr. Tetsu Kubota explained that he and his team had
succeeded in building the Tegal Experimental Flat as a low-carbon building. The building is a pioneer
and best practice for other regions to be able to switch to utilizing low-carbon buildings to prevent
the development of global warming issues.
